How To Sell Yourself During A Job Interview

When it comes to selling yourself for a job there are some key factors you should remember. The first being that you really don't need to "sell" yourself. You just need to prove to the company what you know about them and the skills that you have. The simple factor is to have confidence. If you just show what you know it can get you pretty far.

One thing I have learned is that hiring managers like when you ask questions. So do just that. Just make sure that when you ask your questions you have already done your research. Make sure you research the company online, challenges you may face in the job, try to imagine yourself already working at the job and how your day by day will be, "rehearse" questions that you may be asked by the hiring manager, and then prepare your questions.

It's good to ask atleast two questions, this plays on the emotional part of the hiring manager and tends to connect you with them on a different level. Here are five examples of questions you can ask:
1. Who do you consider your top competitor and why?
2. Can you tell me more about the day-to-day responsibilites of this job?
3. What are the biggest challenges facing the company/department right now?
4. What do you think are the most important qualities for someone to excel in this          role?
5. What are the next steps in the interview process?

Remeber, it is good to ask open-ended questions. These are questions that don't have a yes or no answer. This creates another level of conversation that doesn't feel like an interrogation and creates rapport.

If you have more questions on things related to job interviews ask them below

Disclaimer: I am no job interview expert and really just take what I learned and experienced and give those examples to you.

June Goals

I can not believe it's already June. Where has 2017 gone!?

Around this time of the year, I revisit my New Year's resolutions to see if I have maintained them or if I just have completely failed (which happens often). Surprisingly this year I have been able to keep up with them. If you want to see a list of my New Year's resolutions, check out my blog post Starting Fresh: 2017.

So since I have been successful, I thought it would be useful to add some more personal goals I want to achieve.

With June being the sixth month of the year I created six different goals.

My first goal is to start a monthly Spotify Playlist and share at the end of each month. I feel like there are a lot of good songs that people are unaware of because they are not on mainstream radio. My next goal is to create goals each month. I am very much on the kick of trying to better myself and creating goals really motivates me into looking forward to achieving something. One of my main goals is to read more so to add onto that I decided to pick a book each month that I want to read. On my list right now is You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero. I have heard great things about this book and can not wait to read it. If you have any book recommendations, comment them down below. A silly goal I thought up was to respond to text using only Bitmojis (we will come back at the end of the month to see if I actually achieved this). Since I have been living on my own (away from my parents) for a little while, I want to cook more. I usually just order take out or microwave a meal which is not entirely too healthy so I want to cook at least one meal a week to work on my cooking skills (kind of like a Sim). My last goal is an ongoing goal that I will continue to mention until November. That goal is to raise at least $500 a month. I will be studying abroad from the end of August to the middle of December. I will not be able to get a job while I'm away like I have in the US so my source of income is all the money I have been saving throughout the years and what people are willing to donate. I am using the platform GoFundMe to raise money, but am also using Venmo and Square Cash for those who do not like donating to GoFundMe.

Travel Diary: New York [Architecture Edition]

The University of Miami gives its architecture students amazing opportunities to visit different sites. Those sites can be in any state in the US or even abroad. I am in a studio that is focusing on classical architecture and we took a trip to New York to learn a bit more about classical architecture. Enjoy some pictures I managed to caption with my friends.

If you ever get the chance to go to New York take the opportunity. It is an amazing place, and go with friends. The whole experience will become x10 better.

P.S. I am raising money to be able to study abroad in Rome this coming August 2017. I have raised a little over $300 so far and am able to afford Rome medical insurance. I am still very far away from my goal. So, if you would not mind sharing my link or even donating $5 I can reach my goal in no time. Thanks so much!
